"takenoko" is written in Chinese characters as "筍" or "竹の子", the latter means "baby bamboo". When a Japanese man was traveling abroad and tried to eat bamboo shoots, his fellow guests were surprised to hear that Japanese people also eat bamboo. However, they were impressed by the deliciousness of bamboo shoots he cooked.
kogarashi (wintry wind)

"kogarashi" is a name of wintry wind that blow in early winter. We have an image that kogarashi wind let trees shed their leaves. "kogarashi" is often written as "木枯こがらし" or "凩こがらし". "凩" is a Japanese-made Chinese character.
